Vince Skelly

Sentinel Study 02

Carved from a single block of West Coast timber, this sculpture is part of Vince Skelly's Sentinel collection, developed from the artist's bronze chess set prototypes and early sketches. Originally conceived as small-scale chess pieces, these forms evolved into shelf-sized sculptures before serving as the models for a larger body of outdoor work. Compact in scale yet architectural in presence, each form is shaped through a dialogue between the material, the grain and the act of carving itself.

Maker

Vince Skelly (b. 1987) lives and works in Claremont, California, where he carves sculptures and furniture from single blocks of West Coast timber. Responding to the grain and character of each log, his work explores weight, form, and material. For aarticles, he presents a series of small-scale sculptures developed from chess set prototypes and studies for a larger body of outdoor work.
