Motherhood (Hide)

In this painting, Patricia Perales García continues her Motherhood series. Motherhood can involve a constant awareness of another person's needs, leaving little space for the self. There can be a desire to disappear—to retreat from the demands of the outside world and find solitude.

The dense green landscape suggests an inner world rather than a specific place. Layered and dreamlike, it blurs the boundary between external reality and psychological space, holding a tension between seeking refuge and feeling trapped, between disappearing and remaining present.

Painted on discarded wood, the work embraces its rawness and imperfections.

Notes

As the work is painted on discarded wood, slight irregularities in the panel's surface and edges are inherent to the piece. The work is fitted with a hanging fixture on the back.

Care

Keep out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, as prolonged exposure can affect the paint surface and wood over time. Maintain a stable room temperature and avoid humid spaces such as bathrooms or kitchens. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth — avoid water, or cleaning products on the painted surface.

Maker

Patricia Perales García, based in Copenhagen, makes ceramics, textiles, drawings and oil on wood works, informed by seven years in London's fashion industry and training in costume design in Florence. Her Motherhood series, painted on discarded wood, explores the emotional terrain of early parenthood, from night hours and exhaustion to solitude and the desire to disappear.
