Vessel

Hand-thrown earthenware in black-fired clay, this vessel distills form to its essential silhouette. The deep matte surface carries the shadows and smoke of the firing process, while its shape—reduced, quiet, upright—evokes amphoric lineage. Although the maker is Nick Kourtzis, the piece also emerges from a workshop tradition that dates to the early 19th century in Agiassos, where the Kourtzis family stewarded ceramic craft across multiple generations. The surface irregularities and curvature betray no perfection — instead, they gesture toward time, flame, and touch.
